If you've been keeping track of our store, you may have noticed that some changes have been happening over the last day or so with our battery listings. We have changed the mAh ratings on all of our batteries to reflect the correct amount, rather than overrating the batteries as we did when we first listed them.

When we started DiamondBack, we had a lot of experience with the digital camera accessories business. While this is an overwhelming advantage to us, it did cause us to do some things without really evaluating them. One of these things was the practice of overrating the mAh on our batteries. Some of you may already be familiar with what this means, but for those of you who don't here's an explanation:

Many years ago when digital cameras were first getting really popular, there were very few companies that sold third party batteries. As more and more companies got into the business, competition became fierce. Some companies began marketing their batteries as having a higher mAh (miliamp hour) rating than they actually did. Other companies found that if they were honest about their mAh ratings they began to lose sales, until most if not all companies that sold third party batteries had begun to overrate their batteries. Since then the practice has escalated, and some of the mAh ratings listed are far more than double the actual capacity of the battery.

As we started our company, this practice got carried over without any question or consideration. It was not until a customer sent us an e-mail asking how our batteries could have so much more capacity than the OEM batteries that we really considered what it was that we were actually doing. Steve answered the e-mail honestly, letting the customer know that the ratings listed on our website were incorrect. He posted Steve's reply on the DPReview Forums (click here to view the thread) to let the community there know how we had responded to his question.

After we had thought about what the practice meant to us as a company, and more importantly to our customers, we decided that we would stop overrating the mAh on our batteries. We have always hoped that we could do something special with this company, and we feel that this is the first big step toward that goal. Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! I have to say for myself that 2007 was the best of times and the worst of times. My wife and I were able to make the trip of a lifetime spending a whirlwind tour of Australia, China and Thailand (all wonderful places by the way) for 3 weeks in March. The second third of the year was not quite so fortunate. My favorite dog died, I got fired for the first time in my life (on 9/11), and my last living grandparent died. However the year certainly ended on a high note when myself, my wife and 7 other brave souls came together and started this company that became Diamondback Battery & Electronics.
In 2008 we will expect great things to come, although I am sure we will have some setbacks along the way. Orders are now trickling in daily one here and one there, but by the end of January I expect that we will get 10-12 orders a day. I know you are thinking that is nothing to write home about, and its not, but it is a start and it will allow us to pay rent without dipping further into savings. With any luck by the end of February we will be turning a profit.
We are in the process of adding about 30 new items and combos I will keep you posted on progress.

Made It Through Christmas

Hey Everyone,

We have made it through Christmas and even though we are not in the black yet we are looking forward to a great 2008!!!! The tools from engineseeker are great and I highly recommend them. They have not driven droves of customers, but that is ok even small victories are great for us right now. In the next couple of weeks we are looking to double the number of items that we carry, and this should greatly enhance our footprint. I am going to start writing this blog more often so everyone can track our progress. Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays everyone! Lots of exciting things have happened over the last couple weeks. We are now selling at least one item per day, some days many more! Our customers are letting their friends and families know about us. I look forward to someone posting on reseller ratings or DP review and I am sure that will happen soon. We do have a search engine optimization group working for us called engineseeker.com I will let you know how that works out for us. The thing that has worked best for us is actually something that is free from google called google base. I have also added the google checkout system to our website they charge about the same as paypal does, but until February it is free. We have already had one customer come through the first day with this system. Hopefully people who are leery of giving out their credit card information will feel better about using google or paypal.

It is now December 8 and should be one of our best selling times of the year. The reality is that almost nobody is able to find our site. We have been working on site submission to the search engines and directories. With any luck this will start driving some extra trafic our way.
